 OUR STORY

 About Us

I have 39 years of experience with German Shepherd Dogs, as well as professional experience in the veterinary field, and certification in small animal nutrition, combined with experience in a wide variety of training venues. These include titling my own dog/s in Schutzhund (with the help of Police Officer and Expert private trainer/handler and former DVG competitor/Champion LOUIS VELASQUEZ),  AKC obedience, Agility and SV Show ring training.  Through the years I have developed a strong network of of friends and experts in all areas of showing, training, behaviour problem solving, breeding and husbandry.

ALL THIS COMBINED, GIVES, YOU ,THE CASTLEBROOK SHEPHERD OWNER, A LIFETIME OF SOLID SUPPORT FOR AN ENJOYABLE AND HAPPY HOME FOR BOTH YOU AND YOUR CASTLEBROOK GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG.

I got my start in breeding 8 years ago. My wonderful stud dog Ebonezer/Bon, got me started, because of his exceptional work as a German show line dog. He is truly something special!  He got me started in researching why he was so much better than the average German show dog. This research brought me to his excellent old German bloodlines. This continues today as All of the bloodlines that I have choosen have been throughly researched over the last 10 years. I have predominately German, DDR and Czech working lines and Top WORKING West German show lines, from the best working show dogs in Germany today. I have paid close attention to working drives in each particular line. Paying special attention to production of those drives in the progeny ~ not ONLY what the sire or dam themselves bring. I also pay close attention to intelligence, correct German conformation, health and hip production, temperament, and pigment. If you would like to learn more of my GOALS , please click on the word. I have no large scale plans and my pups are raised in a social and homey environment. That is to say that they are raised in my HOME NOT a kennel. This way I can better socialize them and get to know each one personally from the day they are born. All of my puppies are tested for apptitude, personality, temperament and drive, by an outside source, so as to be able to better match puppies to owners for a much better placement success rate.  I raise a select few litters a year, depending on who is being rested and who is ready to go. Ideally I like to wait before repeating a particular breeding until the first litter is old enough to take a look at their hips. Then all factors, good and bad, are taken into consideration to see if the breeding should be repeated. I feed the best  holistic diets available to all my dogs as the health of breeding animals is of utmost importance for healthy puppies as well as the health of the dam and sire. This comes at a "pretty" price money wise, but it is well worth it as all of my dogs are the picture of health and vitality. This  diet includes such premium dry foods as "Fromm Puppy Gold", "Taste of the Wild"(grain free holistic food), and "Nature's Variety Instinct"(grain free holistic food) as well as "Nature's Variety" frozen raw patties. In addition to this, I also feed raw meat and bones from many sources. Many breeders skimp on food costs to help with the profit margin, NOT HERE!  The money the dog's bring is put right back into themselves at very little profit (other than love and joy!!) to myself. My puppies are conservatively vaccinated to help with immune system problems and wormed every 10 days, starting at 5 weeks of age. The reason I worm every 10 days is because that is the "hatch" cycle for most worms and the worm medication does not kill the worm eggs and giving this every 10 days effectively takes care of any remaining parasites.

Even though I have MUCH love for the German Shepherd dog, I do know that this breed is not right for everyone and neither are my puppies "right" for all buyers. Prospective buyers are also screened for compatibility with the breed as well as their wants and needs. I consider my puppy placements very seriously and only want the best possible "FOREVER" homes for them.  The buyer is given personal service and will be asked to fill out a questionnaire so that we can together decide which puppy is the right fit for their individual situation. I have a wide network of trusted breeders to make referrals to if I do not have what you want. I also am honored to be able to offer IMPORTING services from a trusted German breeder who has some of the best breeding's to VA males in the country and is also reasonably priced, with many contacts all over Germany to help find what you are looking for if you can not find it here.

Why not contact us now to discuss finding the ideal German shepherd dog for your home and save wasting more time and effort in wading through all of the GSD sites out there?

Sincerely,

Debby J. Melle
